About the Author

Kara Toews is an accomplished fiction writer, editor, and educator based in Calgary, Alberta, where she shares her home with her partner and their spirited pack of panthers. A lifelong storyteller, she brings her passion for language and imagination into the classroom at Mount Royal University, where she teaches writing and inspires students to find their voices on the page.

Her short fiction has appeared in Glass Buffalo, Half a Grapefruit Magazine, and The Danforth Review, exploring themes of identity, belonging, and the quiet magic woven through everyday life. When she isn’t writing or building fantastical realms, Kara can often be found wandering forest trails, losing herself among the shelves of independent bookshops, or planning her next story over a cup of strong coffee. She thrives on crisp fall days, believes pumpkin pie is a year-round necessity, and continues to chase the line between the real and the imagined.
